26.8-27.8. 2011 - West Coast Tropo

Warm weather coming from South-West caused nice maps with Hepburn. So I give it to try with a small DX-pedition to the West Coast, Raippaluoto.

There were good conditions to the north coastal cities of Sweden.

21.8.2011 - Saana

On the way from Norway I decided to pay a visit to Saana.

On the rigth: Intelligent wild life.

Saana

On the way up. At this point Körner didn't know what's up.

Finally there. But what is this whitey thing around?

Yep, it was cloud. Total listening session lasted almost two hours. There were non existent conditions to everywhere. Radio Kiruna was aloud and all the Norwegians had church broadcasting for the incident happened earlier in the summer. P4 was identified before that, nice.

And down we go. Seeing was limited to 10 meters.

11.8.2011 - 14.8.2011 Perseids Meteor Shower

For this years Perseids meteor shower antenna was turned to the west for Norwegians. While antenna was pointing to the west there were fewer pings than usual Perseids provides. But there are fever high power stations in the west than south. It was interesting to notice ping starting with Norwegian/Danish while it was turned to in English language at the end.

21.10.2011 JTK commenting:
The shift from Norwegian to English stations can be explained with the level of ionization: once the meteor hits, the level of ions is very high, and a short skip with a sharp reflection angle is possible. When the ionization gradually fades, the last man standing will be signals with the most obtuse (blunt) angle..

Meteors can bring a MUF up to 500 MHz. (My personal record is tv channel E26/ 511 MHz). Which means a very sharp short skip on FM. (My shortness record is YLE Kerimäki at 308 km).
