The Quadrantids meteor shower

It's been kind of dry meteor shower season for the last half year. There has been generally good conditions to the Americas, which is good for AM and bad for FM activities. There has been some technical failures and there has been software failures. Perhaps some unluck too with the chosen frequencies and timings. Today I fixed Total Redorder file, which got corrupted on the 5th January.

The Quadrantids meteor shower was not remarkable for the quantity of meteor scatters, there was quite low number of scatters compared to the Perseids. This time there were very lucky timings!

7.2-8.2.2010 SAVUX3 - Day 10 and closing down

There were Japan & Korea opening in the 7th day afternoon. In the night and morning there were general/weak east coast conditions with some south Americans. Nothing clear to log though.

What an interesting week it has been in Lapland. Those NA west coastish stations, which are reasonably rare to hear in south Finland are quite common in Lapland. These include KFI 640, KBOI 670, KFRC 1550, KWKW 1330, KCLK 1430 and several SD radios: KNWC 1270, WNAX 570 and not to forgetting Oregon: KXL 750, KEX 1190, KWOD 1390. Alaska (590,660,670,680,790,820,970,1140,1170) and Washington (950, 1000 of course, 1090, 1430, 1460, 1480, 1510) were strong almost every afternoon. The problem being here to avoid splatter from euro frequencies.

East cost NA DX was pretty much the same as in south Finland, mostly the same big ones, and also the rare ones. Highlight being here daytimer 1510 WRRD Waukesha WI with ESPN Deportes.

Memorable moments were first catchs from graveyards: CFFB Iqaluit NU, heard this also in south, which is no wonder because it was storming night after night. Other found graveyarders were:
1230: KKEE,
1240: KTIX, KDLR, WMMB,
1340: CFYK strong in afternoons
1400: -
1450: KONP
1490: -

It was good moments to be in openings to Hawaii, Mexico, China, Korea and Japan.

South Asia and Central/South America were lacking appropriate antenna, so there was not much effort to these directions.

Here is SAVUX3 log, currently on the fly status.
